This is my submission for Amy’s Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #31: Landscapes.
It was fun to see different places through Amy and other’s photos. I also appreciate the quote or story that goes with each photo. Please visit Amy’s blog to find out more.
Here are some photos I took on our Alaska trip. It was wet and cold when we were at Denali National Park, so I don’t have any good photos there. Weather was nice when we were on the cruise ship. The last two photos were taken from the ship.
Last night I asked Wei how much he had enjoyed our Alaska trip. He said, “Not much!”
“Rained too many days,” I said. He nodded.
But we did get a few nice shots, so I’m not going to complain.
Thank you for visiting my blog.
These are some lovely shots of your trip to Alaska. Pity it rained at the Park but if you’re a rain-lover, you’d love it. Personally I don’t like it to rain when I’m on the move or on a holiday as it sort of can hinder going out and about seeing the sights. And not to mention, that kind of weather can be cold.

Thanks, Mabel. I am a rain-lover, BUT I had a brand new D750 at that time (4 years ago) and I didn’t want it get wet. And the sky was boring gray. And it was cold. And I really wanted to see Mt McKinley!
With all that said, I did enjoy the trip. Could be better, that’s all. 😉
Have a wonderful day.

Thank you, GP. I wish I had a good photo of Mt McKinley!
I have a story to tell you, GP. Because of your blog, I discovered IHRA, and found out a piece of history that had some meaning to me — US bombed Tainan. When I was in element school (we lived in Tainan), I had a strange dream and that same dream kept coming back. In my dream, several bombers flew in the sky above me, and I was trying to get home. The scene never changed, and I always woke up at a specific point. Even now, I can see the bomber in my head. Interesting, isn’t it?
Not sure where is a good place to tell you this story…
Have a wonderful day.

That is a good story, the war certainly had an affect on you.
How about this post?

But… I wasn’t born when it happened. And I had never watched or heard any war story at that young age. Hmm…
Good post on Paul Tibbets. Thanks. Have a great day.

Thank you, Hien. But we didn’t get a good photo of Mt McKinley and that was a big disappointment. Maybe next time. 😉
Have a wonderful day.

It was cold and rainy when we were there too Helen. I had a glorious view of Mt McKinley the evening we arrived and shot a few photos that night but assumed we’d have many more opportunities as we stayed there a week. We never saw the mountain again!!! You got some beautiful images despite the rain though!

Thanks, Tina. I want to tell you a secret… I love love love your landscape photos. In fact, I love them so much that almost decided not to post any of mine, because I am so content with yours. I didn’t leave any comment because I was speechless!
Anyway, back to Alaska trip. Our biggest disappointment was we didn’t take a good photo of Mt McKinley. It was a nice day when we were heading to Denali. The big mistake we made was that we took the train (paid extra money) instead of stayed on the bus. On the train ride, we did see Mt McKinley, but (1) you have to shoot through the window (2) you don’t have any choice about the angle (3) you have to be on the right side of the train. Anyway, we didn’t get good photos, but we thought it would be ok since we would be there a couple of hours later. And it rained.
It turned out those who stayed on the bus had taken better photos because the bus stopped at a scenic point letting people take photos. Oh well…
Have a wonderful day.

Oh well is right Helen! We had a flight seeing return booked for our last day and it was so rainy and foggy we had to take the bus back. Missed our connecting flight – big ordeal! But at least we got a short window for some photos the first night. Thanks for the lovely compliment on my landscapes, much appreciated!

Beautiful! Especially number 4. When we visited Denali it was September and it started to snow. I also remember coming down with a really bad cold which bothered me more than the weather. I still enjoyed it though.

Thanks, Anabel. Oh no, bad cold… That was too bad. I had a bad cold when we visited Yellowstone. My husband was driving. I was only awake when we arrived at a scene point and only last for 5 minutes. Now I am very careful before traveling. But sometime being careful seemed not enough ;-(
Have a wonderful day.

You have been to a lot of places, Helen, and I so enjoy seeing your photos. Alaska looks lovely in spite of the rain.

Thanks, Lois. Do you believe that most of these travels were taken after I retired?
Alaska is a lovely place, but it’s not easy to live there. I truly admire those who live there. I don’t like cruise that much, but this is one exception. Ha.
Have a great day.

Amazing shots on a rainy day, Helen! It’s hard to enjoy your trip when the weather is not cooperative.

Thank you, Amy. It brought back a lot of memories.. Wet and cold was not that bad. What hurt the most was that we didn’t have a good view of Mt McKinley in the whole trip. We did see it briefly, but we were in the train and there was no way to take good photos. Still, there were plenty of bright sides of the trip 😉
Have a wonderful day.
