My Recent Taiwan Trip (Chimei Museum in Tainan, Taiwan) – 2017 Week 16

This is a scheduled post. I will reply comments a week later.

From Wikipedia…
The Chimei Museum (Chinese: 奇美博物館; pinyin: Qíměi Bówùguǎn) is a private museum established in 1992 by the Chi Mei Corporation in Rende District, Tainan, Taiwan. The museum’s collection is divided into five categories: Western Art (including painting, sculpture, decorative arts and period furniture); Musical instruments; Natural history; Arms and armor; Antiquities and artifacts. The museum is known for having one of the largest collections of violins in the world, and also for its significant collections of ancient weapons and Western paintings and sculptures.[2] Forbes magazine, in its February 1996 article on private collectors in Asia, called Chimei Museum “one of the world’s most surprising art collections.”[3]The museum moved to its current venue on Wenhua Road in 2014.

My nephew Lin and his wife took me to see Chimei museum one day when I was in Tainan.

“You won’t be able to see the inside of the museum, because it closes around 5:30, but the outside is still worth taking pictures,” he said.

The plan was: first went to a beach to see sunset, then Chimei museum then eat.

I was hoping we would arrive at Chimei during the blue hour, but the traffic wasn’t good so when we arrived, it was already dark.

The fountain in front was beautiful. There were already several photographers there with their big cameras on top of their tripods. I decided to shoot from the opposite side.

The water would be turned on from time to time. I thought it would be a better photo when the water was on. But I couldn’t see any of those sculptures when water was spraying around.

No clouds. Actually, I kind of like that blackness.

Thanks for visiting my blog.

Amazing reflections and it was still good you managed to arrive and have a look outside. Beautiful beach in Taiwan too, and that is such a soft and cute colored sunset 😊 Beautifully done and those with the tripods sound like pros. But your shot looks like a pro

Thanks, Mabel. I had a lot of fun shooting these photos.
I saw your recent post when I was in the Danube river cruise. I wonder how you took those photos (very impressive!) I am going to stop there and ask you the question 😉 I want to be able to take those photos!
      Have a wonderful day.

They were long exposure shots that I took with a Joby (balanced it on some ledges)…and then post-processing helped too 😉 My camera also has an in-built ND filter and I use that quite a bit for my long-exposure evening shots. Good luck. Your shots are great 🙂

Thanks, Anica. I like the last photo a lot, too. I think part of the reason is that it gives me plenty of the “white” space and the lines/forms are more interesting than the other. But I do take lots of so-so photos when I travel ;-(
      Have a wonderful day.

Thanks, Carol. After our Taiwan trip, before we totally recovered, we were in the Danube river cruise. 😉 Sometime I think, maybe, I’m having too much fun. But on the other hand, we have to travel while we can, I believe.
      Have a wonderful day.

Without reading your lines, I would surely thought you were in Europe, the architecture of chimei museum and those marble(?) horses sculptures are remarkably stunning.

Thanks, Adhika. How are you? This is a wonderful surprise! I was delighted. I didn’t want to reply your comment too soon, so everyday I can pretend it was new and be happy about it. Ha.
Do you know there is another blogger whose name is very similar to yours? Several times I thought it was you…
Anyway, yes, I am still learning photographing and I actually like it more than before. It seems like I finally have moved past the point-and-shoot period of time, and I think more about each photo I want to take. And I Like that.
Hope everything goes well for you. Wish you blog more…

  8. Beautiful, Helen. The horses sculpture works well against the black sky! And the reflection on the still water is great!

  9. Wonderful shots, Helen, especially the first one – it is indeed very beautiful. I love the way you have composed the shot with interesting foreground, and almost monochrome impact with lot of clarity.

Thanks, Suyash. It is an interesting place! I hope I will have a chance to see the inside of the museum next time.
Are you still in MN? Why it’s so cold? ;-( I can’t wait for the spring.
I am going to DC in July and maybe LA in August. I see you are all over the places too! 😉
      Take care.

      • Yes, I am in MN currently. Even I am wondering why it’s still cold and rainy days. I long for warm sunny days now.

Memorial day weekend, I go to Door County in WI and then July weekend, another road trip to the mighty Teton and Yellowstone NP once again 🙂

DC n LA will be fun. I love DC, beautiful memorials and Mall area. Haven’t been to LA so far. Have fun & do some street photography
