This is my second submission for XDrive Photo Lesson 11 – Lenses. All photos were taken with Nikon D750.
I took our 16-28 mm lens to Douglas Trail today. It didn’t take me long to see why many photographers don’t mind carrying this heavy thing around.
My first try…

I probably should use a bigger F-stop, so the background would be clearer… yes?
Why 16 mm, you may wonder. Well, I had to start somewhere. Why it is darker in the middle of the foreground? Well, I accidentally shot my own shadow, that is. ;-(
After seeing the first photo, I got excited. 😉

Now I understand why one 28-300 mm lens is not enough. Does this mean I can no longer be a happy one-lens person anymore?

Good morning, Roberta. Thank you for your comment. It was a fun and interesting experience. Lens does make differences 😉 I wish I knew what I know now 20 years ago. But… my husband had this lens for several years, and, as far as I know, he only took it to trip once and even on that trip, he wished he didn’t bring the lens along because it is kind of heavy. 😉

Chris love her wide angle lens. That is about the only lens she’ll use. Great photos.

I have a big backpack that I keep all my camera gear in. I have several different smaller ones I use depending on which lenses I think I will be using. 😀

oh I have never seen a bench look so good – and happy one-lens person – hah! I once heard someone talk about having lens envy…. and this sounds like photographer issues big time – how fun

Wow Helen, second contribution! Great try!
Pic 1: Great try, yes the focus is on the foreground and the foreground should have been something more interesting like flowers. Since the background is blurred I wished it were more blurred.
Pic 2: Simply superb! Sharpness to the core! Even though you used the same aperture the focus was further up and that worked very well. Image shows the 3rd dimension beautifully. My favourite of the set.
Pic 3: Again a great result. Is the image tilted a bit?
Pic 4: Nice shallow DOF shot. I love these kinds of shots. These are classic shots, which goes on magazine covers!
Beautifully captured Helen. But you need to take 50 mm whenever you take this lens. Don’t blame me later! 😀

Pic 1: I don’t like this photo, but since it was the first photo I took with a wide angle lens, I decided to post it anyway 😉
Pic 2: It was fun to try a different angle. I guess I am less afraid of what people might think nowadays.
Pic 3: There is something bothering me with this one. Like I told Hein, I keep thinking I need to adjust the horizontal line. Maybe it is because the lens was tilted?

The second and forth images are my favorites. Walking a trail can, overtime, become boring…but if you carry a camera…the trail seems to be unique at every turn as all of your images demonstrate.
