Temperance River State Park is located at one mile north of the town Schroeder on State Highway 61.
It is said the park got its name because, unlike other North Shore streams, the river had no bar at its mouth. At one time, the waters of this particular river flowed so deep and so strong into Lake Superior that there was no build-up of debris. This meant that there was no “bar.” What could you call a river without a bar? For an appropriate, if slightly tongue-in-cheek selection, “temperance” fits perfectly.

Last weekend, we attended a wedding up north; after the wedding, we visited a couple of state parks and Temperance River State Park was one of them.
Which bridge photo do you like better? I like them both; I like them equally, I am afraid.
Hidden fall is one other attraction in the park.
When we approach the hidden falls, a group of young kids came to greet us. “We are going to jump down the cliff!” one kid said excitedly.
“Is it safe?” I asked.
“Yes. We have two guys down there checking it out and they said okay.”
A moment later, the kid who went down checking came back. “Is it deep enough?” I asked.
“I think so,” He said.
“You have to be 100% sure, okay? Don’t risk,” I said.
Wei positioned himself preparing to take a good photo when the boy jumped. I told him we had to leave. “I don’t want them to jump because of us. If we stay, I am afraid they jump only because they had told us they would.”
After telling them to be careful, we walked away. Right before we were out of their sight, I turned around and saw them waving at us. “OMG, they are going to jump,” I said to Wei.
The kid did, and we did take a couple of photos.
Temperance River State Park is beautiful, but it was the smile on those young boys’ faces that made the trip unforgettable.

Good morning, Roberta. I, too, worried if it was a good idea for them to jump. But at the same time they looked so excited, and happy (and no iPhone or iPad). It reminded me of kids in 60s 😉 Also, I have to give them some credit for checking how deep the water was first. Ha.

Thanks, Hien. The second photo looks smaller here, so it is probably hard to compare. On one hand, I thought it had to be taken in portrait mode, but then I wasn’t so sure. My husband definitely like the landscape one. I didn’t quite understand his reason 😉

The photos turns out pretty good… I mean I like them 😉 At first, I posted one photo here, but at the last minute I took it off. I am always hesitated when posting kids’ photos, except photos of my great nephew and niece, which I had a long discussion with my nephew and he said it was okay. I know it’s legal for us to take others’ photo in a public place, but I think we should protect kids. Do I worry too much?
Can anyone jump off a cliff in a park as long as there is no sign saying not-to?

Something is going on in WP that is not allowing me ‘like’ a comment…darn it. I know what you mean about kids photos. I had a young boy ask me why I was taking his photo. He happened to be standing next to my husband, who was fishing. Kids were all over the place! I put my camera down and didn’t take any after that. Weird feeling for me.

Yeah / it looked dirty – but also a little unsure about the depth and any jagged rocks.
And I think it would be okay to share the pics – and if u feel uncomfy maybe u could blur the faces – I might do that in the future

I think the first picture of the bridge is more appealing. It seems to be localized from the vantage point, allowing for a better angle on the rocks and the water. The second photo seems more removed from the scene but still looks great!
