Cee’s Black & White Challenge: Music – People, instruments, sheet music, audio devices

In my previous post, Adhika at Lo and Behold had commented that if I’m going to show S’s face partially, maybe a 16:9 aspect ratio might be better. I have never thought of 16:9 ratio because (1) none of our cameras produce a photo in that ratio (2) It is not one printing option that available at the store either. Well, I thought I would give it a try anyway, and… I just love it! I like the extra space it gives me. Not everyone wants all that space, I know. But I do 😉 (Thanks, Adhika!)

    Wow! This 16:9 ratio truly gives the image a different angle. It’s very interesting!!

    I have no idea what 16:9 ratio is but these are beautiful, Helen. I especially love the first photo.

      Lois, it was the first time I heard about 16:9 ratio. My camera takes 4 inches by 6 inches photo, and one of our other camera takes 5 by 5. So to create a 16:9 photo, I created a blank canvas of 16 inches by 9 inches and then copy my 4:6 (or 6:4) photo to this blank canvas and do the necessary fix. I hope I was doing the right thing. 😉

    Love that first shot ~ the white background is perfect along with the framing of bringing out this musician (and in such detail as well). The ratio makes this photo what it is…creative Helen, you’ve got a great eye.

        It really was a jump of improvement from my perspective (often it is simply me not “getting it” with a photo/photographer) but this was something more ~ perhaps a blend of technique, attention and perspective, something that comes from the artist inside of you I suppose. But a real transformation that is on that flight upwards ~ and fully agree, it is what makes it fun. Cheers to a great year ahead!

    Nice series. Many cameras let you choose the ratio, and then in software you have preset ratios and custom ratios. My head hurts thinking about the options, but if you find one that works, it’s worth it.

      Thanks, Lignum. I am probably to old to change. Even though I do like this ratio, I don’t take photos in this ratio. Cameras let you choose the ratio, but they also tell you in what ratio you will get the best result. I don’t argue with it. 😉
