Friday Writing Essential says…
Here we have a photo I took three summers ago. I would like you to write a story about it…
A maple tree
I had never seen a red maple leaf before I came to U.S. The moment I saw one, I fell in love with all of them. Still, Connecticut’s maple trees are the most unforgettable ones for me.
We flew to Connecticut to attend our first Parents’ Weekend at Yale. When the plane started descending, looking out the window, I saw endless of red and yellow leaves shining under the blue sky. As a mother who hadn’t seen her daughter for a couple of months and was going to see her soon, I couldn’t take my eyes away from the beautiful color, thinking how well this scenery had described a mother’s love.
My daughter was excited seeing us. After dinner, she told us Yale’s senior students’ a cappella was very good, and asked us to meet her later to attend the concert.
It took us a while to find a parking spot. We were late.
“It’s almost time for the concert to start. I don’t think we can make it,” my daughter said.
She thought for a while. “Maybe we can, if we walk fast.”
She held my hand, started walking briskly. Her father followed right behind us.
I couldn’t tell which way we were going. In the dark, I let her lead me, felt the warmth of her hand, thinking I was the luckiest person in the whole world.

Hi Helen, this story is lovely. I never get tired of looking at the colours changing during the fall, here in Canada we have all different colours showing up. You should be very proud of your daughter, a Yale student and for all the love you and her share, I could feel a deep connection between you two.

This story is heartwarming. I have never seen the fall colors of the East Coast except in photographs. My husband has, and he promises we will go one day. He told me how glorious it is.

Carol, you have to go to see it! 😉 Minnesota has beautiful fall color, but, for some reason, I like Connecticut’s fall color better. Maybe it has something to do with all of those sweet memories…
