These 3 pictures were taken at Rose Bowl Stadium on 4th of July. All these people were sitting on the other side of the football field from me. These photos came out better than I thought.
When I play with photos, I like to enlarge them, shrink them… etc. to see how they look. After I enlarged the first photo, I just fell in love with it. Usually, I like crisp, sharp photos, but this blurry image reminds me of some old paintings I have seen. I wish I could paint something like this.

The second, for some reason, I like how it looks: the flag, the two people sat right below the flag and there were other people toward the front.

The third one was a challenge from me. I didn’t think I could catch the image of the motorcyclist: (1) it was far away from me (again, on the other side of the football stadium). (2) it moved very fast. I was surprised at how it turned out. (There maybe some editing work can be done to make the motorcycle stand out more, but it will take too much time for me to figure out.)

Thanks, Cee. I was surprised how clear those pictures are since it was such a long distance. The zooming power sure is great in that camera.
I am having problem with my PC, so I haven’t been able to reply. Hope it will be fixed soon.

I simply love the way you show us the photos, and talk about your thoughts about them. I see a bit of the process in your mind, and it is wonderful, helps me to think!!! What kind of camera do you have that you can get such good photos long distance like that?

Good morning! I always believe that a group of us can learn together, so I like to document my learning progress in case my experience would help others. Thanks for your nice comment. The camera I was using was Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200. It’s the best (among all of the cameras we have) for shooting long distance like this. It’s light weight. So whenever I didn’t plan to shoot anything, I would carry this one instead of my Nikon D7000. (I don’t know if I have called you with a wrong name before. If I did, sorry. It’s hard to know people’s name based on their ID. 😉

I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC ZS7, and also a basic Canon SLR. But I always take the Panasonic because it is lighter weight. However, whenever I zoom, the image turns out grainy. This Panasonic is actually pretty old, and I was trying to decide if I should get a newer model just for the zooming part. Once you learn a type of camera, it seems easier to stay with the same brand. I like the macros I get with this simple, inexpensive camera. Carol

Carol, good I didn’t get your name wrong 😉 Believe it or not we have two Panasonic Lumix at home. My husband bought DMC FZ18 long time ago and just loved it. The zooming is great. Since he liked it so much, I decided to get a DMC FZ200 for him. Well, it turns out I am the one who is using FZ200 most of the time and he is still using FZ18. (He also has a Nikon D700; I have Nikon D7000 — 7000 is much lighter.)
You are right – the Macro is great too. Sometime I am not even sure why do I need D7000. That’s another good homework – take a photo of the same thing with these two different camera and see the difference. Very interesting! Helen

Helen, you and I think alike. I did exactly that; I took just a simple photo of a fire hydrant near my house with both cameras. I could not see a difference. I should post a few and ask the community if they see a difference. I love the Lumix, I put it in my back pocket and it is always with me. You just never know when a good photo will appear.

Come to think of it… there were times that I brought FZ200 with me and wished I had D7000. Hmm… when was that and why? It happened sometime, but not every time. I have to think about this…
You are better than me. Quite often I only have iPhone camera with me 😉
