It goes with Chinese Opera. My dad used to play for some Chinese Opera performers.

So that’s what this is called! We had one growing up, and no one how to play (though granddad probably could) so we kids tried to finger and bow it in the western style, often with comical results. 🙂

There are other instruments look like this one. I hope I am right… it is two strings instrument. Pressing the bow to one string vs. the other would generate different sounds. So one of your hands is busy moving ups and down, pressing on the string, and the other hand is busy pressing the bow to one of the two strings. I managed to play do-re-mi and that was about it 😉
